Holafly in Costa Rica
Holafly is not in any affiliate program we use, so this review costs us money to publish. It is here because leaving out the biggest unlimited brand would make every other page on this site less useful.

What Holafly costs in Costa Rica
USD, checked 2026
| Plan | Price | Per day | What the same money buys elsewhere |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 day | $6.90 | $6.90 | GigSky Unlimited 1 day (3.5GB), $4.99 |
| 3 days | $19.90 | $6.63 | GigSky Unlimited 3 days, $14.49 |
| 5 days | $29.90 | $5.98 | Airalo 10GB for 30 days, $34.00 |
| 7 days | $37.90 | $5.41 | GigSky Unlimited, 7 days, $26.49 |
| 10 days | $40.50 | $4.05 | Airalo 20GB for 30 days, $40.50 |
| 15 days | $51.50 | $3.43 | GigSky Unlimited 15 days, $36.49 |
| 30 days | $99.90 | $3.33 | GigSky Unlimited 30 days, $69.49 |
The seven-day row is the one to sit with. Holafly costs $37.90 for a week in Costa Rica and Airalo Unlimited $36.50. Airalo prints a 3GB per day cap and lets you hotspot out of it. Holafly prints no cap on phone data and limits hotspot to 1GB a day. Nearly the same money, two genuinely different products, and which one is better depends entirely on whether a laptop is involved.
The 1GB hotspot limit is the whole story
read this before buying
If you are a remote worker looking at Costa Rica, this single line disqualifies the plan, and Holafly's own product page states it plainly to its credit. A working day tethered to a laptop runs 2 to 3GB. You would hit the ceiling before lunch, every day, for the price of the most expensive plan on this site.
If you are a traveler who uses data on the phone, the picture flips. Maps that reload constantly on mountain roads, Instagram from Manuel Antonio, a two-hour video call to family from the hotel, and never once opening a data usage screen. That is what you are buying, and there is real value in not having to think about it.
Holafly's fair-use text also allows the local operator to reduce speed temporarily, described as no more than one day at a time. That is not a daily gigabyte cap and we will not present it as one, but it does mean uncapped is uncapped in the ordinary sense, not the physics sense. The full unlimited comparison works out price per usable gigabyte for all four options.
Holafly against Airalo Unlimited
a week for about $37
| Seven days in Costa Rica | Holafly | Airalo Unlimited | GigSky Unlimited |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $37.90 | $36.50 | $26.49 |
| Phone data | no published cap | 3GB/day, then 1 Mbps | 3.5GB/day; speed after not stated |
| Hotspot | 1GB/day | from the same 3GB | from the same 3.5GB |
| Cap written down | no | yes | yes |
| Networks named | Claro + Liberty | Liberty | Claro + Liberty |
| Pays this site | nothing | yes, the least of five | yes |
Our reading, and you can disagree with it: for a phone-only traveler who values not thinking, Holafly earns its price. For anyone with a laptop, GigSky Unlimited is $11.41 cheaper and gives 3.5 shareable gigabytes a day instead of one. Airalo sits in the middle and is the safe choice if you want a written cap and might occasionally tether.
Holafly coverage in Costa Rica
the same two networks
Holafly's Costa Rica page says "Networks: Claro / Liberty", the same two most travel eSIMs here name. Unlimited data does not buy a better network. In the Central Valley, Guanacaste, Arenal and Manuel Antonio you will be fine. In the Osa, Sarapiquí, Tortuguero and the far Caribbean south you will be looking at one bar, exactly as you would on a $5 plan.
This is worth stating because "unlimited" and "always connected" get sold as the same idea. They are not. If your itinerary includes the rural south, the fix is not a bigger data plan, it is a Kölbi chip alongside whatever eSIM you buy.
Buy it or skip it
with nothing in it for us
Buy Holafly if
You use data on the phone only and genuinely will not tether a laptop.
Not thinking about data is worth real money to you, and on a 15-day trip that is $2.50 over Airalo Unlimited ($51.50 against $49.00).
You want the 10-day plan at $40.50, which is the one row where Holafly's per-day price is quietly good.
Skip Holafly if
You will hotspot a laptop. The 1GB/day ceiling makes this the wrong plan at any price. GigSky Unlimited is the answer.
You want a published daily cap: Saily and Airalo print 3GB/day, then 1 Mbps, for $34.99 and $36.50 a week.
You use under 10GB a trip, which is most people. A fixed plan is half the price. Work out your number first.
Questions
on Holafly in Costa Rica
Is Holafly really unlimited in Costa Rica?
On the phone, effectively yes: Holafly publishes no daily gigabyte cap for Costa Rica, which is unusual. Its fair-use text does allow the local operator to reduce speed temporarily, described as up to one day. Hotspot sharing is separately and firmly capped at 1GB per day.
Why does this site not link Holafly?
Because Holafly is not in the affiliate program we use, so there is nothing to link to that would credit us. We review it anyway and list it in every comparison table, unlinked. A table that omitted the biggest unlimited brand would be misleading, and being useful is the only thing that makes this site worth visiting.
Can I use Holafly for remote work in Costa Rica?
Not well. The 1GB daily hotspot limit is about a third of what a tethered working day uses. For remote work from Santa Teresa, Nosara or Tamarindo, GigSky Unlimited at 3.5GB a day or Airalo Unlimited are the plans that actually fit.
Which network does Holafly use in Costa Rica?
Its Costa Rica page says "Networks: Claro / Liberty", checked 2026. It does not name Kölbi, so it does not help in Kölbi-only areas, and unlimited data does not change that. Here is what does.
Does Holafly give a Costa Rican phone number?
No, its Costa Rica plans are data-only. If you need local calls and texts, Airalo's Hot Telecom+ packages include them, or you buy a local prepaid chip with a +506 number.
Is Holafly worth $99.90 for a month?
Only if you are phone-only and heavy. GigSky Unlimited is $69.49 for thirty days at 3.5GB a day, Saily and Airalo about $89 with a published 3GB daily cap, and Yesim's fixed 20GB is $37.80. For most month-long trips the fixed plan plus a top-up is far cheaper. The math is here.
Want unlimited with a number on it?
Airalo Unlimited costs $36.50 for a week in Costa Rica, $1.40 less than Holafly, publishes a 3GB per day cap, and lets you hotspot out of it instead of capping sharing at 1GB.
